The Different Types of Advertising

The different types of advertising need to be carefully assessed for the market that you want to reach. Not all forms of advertising are good for every market. It’s simply that some forms of advertising work better for different targeted audiences.

The best way to know where you need to place your scarce advertising dollars is to know where your target market ‘hangs-out’. You will be unlikely to know where they congregate if you don’t have a very clear idea of exactly what the demographics are for your market.

Once you have the demographics clearly defined, then you will have a very clear picture of the people that your product or service will help the most. This will also allow you to have a very good idea of where to reach them. When doing the demographics for your business, don’t “assume” anything. Over the years, I have seen too many small businesses fail because they didn’t do their homework right. They “Thought” instead of finding out for sure.

This lack of initial investigation and market surveying cost these small businesses dearly.

Market research doesn’t have to cost an ‘arm and a leg’. What it does require is the ability to communicate with people and other businesses in your field of enterprise, and not being afraid to talk with your perceived competitors.  Don’t just talk with other people and businesses in your own industry field but also talk to other businesses in allied industries. By picking up a wider variety of information will allow you to refine your marketing campaign and better target your ads towards your actual target market. This can save you thousands of dollars and it also has the potential to add thousands of dollars to your bottom line in profit.
Once you know and understand your demographics then it’s time to consider where they can be reached most economically and affectively. There is no point in half-doing a job and that applies especially when considering the different advertising mediums available today.

Each one of these advertising mediums is not going to be cheap. There is no such thing today as cheap advertising if you are going to do a proper job of it. But there are less expensive ways to get more customers than others. This is why you have now put in so much time (I hope) to understanding the demographics of your target market.

Something that you need to take into account when deciding how to advertise on any advertising platform will be the cost of getting each new customer through your doors. This is where a good accountant can be your best friend if you are not good with figures. You will save yourself money and angst if you have these costs correctly assessed by a professional.

The Different Types of Advertising available today all come with a different cost structure but if you get it wrong it will all be too expensive.
