Is Internet Marketing a “Mugs” Game?

Every day there are thousands of people who look to the Internet to earn an income. For some of these people it will be the desire to supplement their income to meet rising bills while for others it will be the result of a desperate attempt in which they can earn an income after losing a job or being downsized. Either way, they are highly vulnerable to unethical Internet Marketers who have no hesitation in manipulating this desire.  So does this need to earn an income off the Internet make these people “mugs”?

A mug is Australian slang for someone who is easily duped.

To say that someone is being a mug means to say that you think they are naïve; easily duped, gullible.  It may be an ‘old-fashioned’ Australian slang word but it describes someone who is willing to believe most things they are told at face-value and without questioning.  This naïve character trait in a person often makes them victims of those who act unethically towards them.
This character trait in a person makes them very gullible to all the hypey sales letters used today on the internet that promises them all their worldly desires but delivers either nothing or barely a grain of one of the benefits stated in a hypey sales letter.

There are two things someone must know to earn a living from Internet Marketing (Im)

1. Technical Know-how
If you are seriously thinking of earning an income off the internet then you will require some basic technical skills beyond knowing how to surf the net and email.
Your competitors in any niche are going to be computer programmers or other high level technical experts who have 3+ years of computer engineering, programming or other IT qualifications that can and will “rip” into any successful niche you may find.  Internet marketing is extremely competitive and there are some very unethical competitors in it.

There are solutions to this drawback but they do cost money.

2.  The ability to Write
It is necessary to be able to do just a bit more than string two-or-more words together in a sentence. You don’t need to be Tolstoy but you do need to be able to express your meaning in such a way that anyone reading it can clearly understand your meaning.  This includes not writing above what the average reader can grasp (that is, no PhD thesis- style writing) and a heck-of-a-lot above texting style writing. You will need to be able to write 400+ words or more on a subject of your choosing so that you can engage your reader’s attention.

Once again, there are solutions to this drawback but they do cost money.

So the next time you read that over-hyped analogy “even my 64 year-old Grandmother can do this” please remember these warnings and don’t be a mug by disregarding the advice.
